My Story: Why I Became an Advocate
My journey into patient advocacy was born out of a severe medical crisis within my own family. In 2022, my husband’s health rapidly declined due to extreme, unexplained leg swelling that frequently led to dangerous septic infections and endless hospitalizations. For over a year, we cycled through specialists and tests with no answers. When we finally received a rare autoimmune diagnosis from a local specialist, we felt a wave of relief and placed our absolute trust in his care. Tragically, that trust led to a year-long nightmare of improper treatments, botched procedures, and extreme physical and emotional trauma that nearly cost my husband his life. As a mom of four, navigating his severe illness alongside his hard-won, eight-year journey in addiction recovery—which meant managing his pain without narcotics—I was completely consumed by the stress of caregiving, medical mistreatment, and the constant fear of losing him.
The turning point came when I finally took complete control of his medical trajectory. After a horrifying incident of medical malpractice, I refused to let him remain in that system. I demanded transfers, sought second opinions, and fought to move him to a completely new care team. It was only then that we discovered his previous doctor had a history of severe reprimands, had performed entirely unnecessary surgeries, and had given him the wrong medications. By stepping into the role of a fierce, unrelenting advocate for my husband, I coordinated with trusted new providers and helped implement a proper care plan. Today, he is finally on a true path to healing, and our family is reclaiming our lives.
During those agonizing years, I desperately needed a professional co-pilot—someone to research rare conditions, vet providers, challenge medical teams, handle the overwhelming logistics, and protect us from falling through the cracks. I chose to become a patient advocate because I want to be the person for your family that I so deeply needed for mine. No one should have to navigate a complex, sometimes broken healthcare system alone, in the dark, or under extreme stress. If I can use my experience to prevent another family from enduring physical and emotional trauma, and instead bring them clarity, safety, and ultimate peace of mind, then I am fulfilling my true purpose.

My journey in healthcare began before I even graduated from high school. Starting out as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), I got an up-close, unfiltered look at what truly happens behind the scenes in healthcare facilities, private homes, and doctors' offices. While I loved the work, I quickly realized that patients often get lost in a complex, overwhelming system.
Driven by a desire to do more and help more, I advanced my career by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Today, I am continuing that relentless pursuit of excellence by working toward my RN, ASN.
I founded Porchlight Care Advocates because I believe no one should have to navigate their healthcare journey in the dark. My goal is simple: to prove to patients that there are still people in medicine who genuinely care. I am here to stand in your corner, protect your interests, and be your guiding light through every step of your healthcare journey.
